- See also: Conduct & Behaviour in the Classroom ...
- Content of exams
- Exams are cumulative. You are expected to know the course content that was included in previous exams.
- Emphasis will be on the course content that was covered since the previous exam. (X3 includes X2 and X1 content and X2 includes X1 content.)
- Cheating
- You are cheating if:
- You have a cellphone (or other electronic or communications device) on your person or at your desk.
- You have a watch (or other electronic or communications device) on your person or at your desk. (Smart watches are now widely available.)
- You use any information source (that wasn't specifically approved for you) such as a book, a dictionary, a cellphone, etc.
- You have relevant information on your person or at or near your desk.
- You communicate with anybody but the teacher/adjudicator during the exam. This includes looking at someone, looking at someone's exam, talking to someone, using any method of communicating with anyone, etc.
- You falsify a justification for an absence.
- see also "Washroom" (below).
- If you cheat, you fail. You definitely will fail the exam. You may also fail the course. Further sanctions are also possible.
- Copying & Plagiarism ...
- Required
- pencil, white eraser, pen
- Absence
- You must inform your teacher before the exam if you must miss the exam. Failure to do this will result in 0% with no chance of a make-up exam.
- The only exception to this rule would be if there is a very serious medical emergency at the time of the exam. A doctor's certificate is required. The medical certificate must be dated the day of the exam and must confirm that it was indeed an emergency.
- Make-up Exams
- All make-up exams for all my courses will be held on the same day at the same time and in the same room at the end (final day) of the formal Final Exam Period for the term. For example: 2017-05-15 to 2017-05-25.
- You will receive an "Incomplete" mark until the day of the make-up exam. Failure to write the make-up exam on the given day will result in failure in the course. No excuses!
- This will not be a final exam. This will be an exam used to provide a mark for the exam that you missed. Pass/Fail.
- Three (3) hours for the exam.
- The room number will be posted on this website at least one day before the make-up exam.
- Dictionaries:
- Electronic devices will never be allowed (computers, dictionaries, cellphones, watches, pagers, Walkman/MP3/CD/DVD player, etc.)
- Translation dictionaries will never be permitted.
- Definition dictionaries will never be permitted.
- Electronics:
- Nothing electronic will be permitted during an exam. See below.
- Prohibited (examples): computers (unless required), PDAs (personal digital assistants) or other portable computers, electronic dictionaries, USB Flash drives, lasers, cellphones, watches, pagers or other messaging devices, cameras, calculators (unless required), players of any kind (radio, TV, CD, DVD, MP3, etc.), etc.
- Phone - Turn off your phone, then put your phone away, out of sight, out of reach. Setting the phone's ring mode to vibrate is not good enough. Turn off your phone.
- If the teacher hears or sees a phone, the penalty will be automatic.
- Penalty = automatic failure (0%) for the exam.
- Texting (= Text messaging) (sending or receiving) is prohibited. Turn off your phone. Setting the phone's ring mode to vibrate is not good enough. Turn off your phone.
- Penalty = automatic failure (0%) for the exam.
- Food:
- No food of any kind will be permitted during the exam. No gum. No candy. No sandwiches. No pizza. No poutine. Nothing.
- Drinks must be approved. Show your teacher the drink before the exam begins.
- Make-up Exams
- Washroom
- You must prepare for the exam before the exam starts.
- If you leave the exam room during the exam, you will not be allowed to return to finish the exam.
- Other:
- Backpacks should be left in lockers. Do not bring a backpack to the exam room.

Subject: [All_faculty] Important Message Regarding the English Exit Test and Final Examinations - Winter 2010
RE: English Exit Test and Final Examinations (Winter 2010)
We would like to give you advance warning of our intention to strictly enforce College examination rules governing cheating, in particular, the use/possession of cell phones and other electronic communication devices during an examination. To wit, any student found with an electronic communication device IN THEIR POSSESSION (from the moment they step into the exam room until they pick up their bags after finishing their exam, whether or not they use them ) WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
We are following more stringent application of this rule after several incidents last year. Since we cannot be expected to know if a student who is carrying a cell phone/other electronic communication device has been using it or not, we have decided that anyone found with one in their possession will be automatically disqualified. We feel this is the fairest solution and ensures an equal application of our policy.
If you would like to discuss this further, you may contact Barbara Freedman, Dean of Instructional Development at extension 1485.

We would like to give you advance warning of our intention to strictly enforce College examination rules governing cheating, in particular, the use/possession of cell phones and other electronic devices* during an examination. To wit, students found with an electronic device in their possession (from the moment they step into the exam room until they pick up their bags after finishing their exam, whether or not they use them ) WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
We are following more stringent application of this rule after several incidents last year. Since we cannot be expected to know if a student who is carrying a cell phone or other electronic device has been using it or not, any student found with one in his/her possession will be automatically disqualified.
It would be helpful if you could communicate this to your students.
