- IDrive lets you use a private encryption key if you're looking for a little more security than the default encryption. You must make this decision when you create your initial backup. You will then have the sole key to unlock your files, and if you lose it, your data will become useless.
- iDrive Sync (included with iDrive Home)
- Includes syncing of one folder to other computers and/or the cloud. See also Backup#Syncing
- Sync storage does not impact your backup storage. Sync storage limit matches your backup storage limits.
- IDrive creates a unique local folder (C:\Users\YourUserName\IDrive-Sync) on the computer. Add files to this folder to sync them in real time. Whenever you modify files within this folder, the updates instantly reflect on all linked devices and vice-versa.
- Note that this is not the same as syncing the contents of one drive to another drive (c.f. SyncBack, Syncredible, etc.).

Or ... Reinstall IDrive
- Reinstall IDrive
- Capture the backup set details before you clean install IDrive app.
- Uninstall IDrive from the control panel.
- Rename below folders from your computers to .old
- Rename "C:\Program Files (x86)\IDriveWindows" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\IDriveWindows.old"
- Rename "C:\ProgramData\IDrive" to "C:\ProgramData\IDrive.old"
- Once renamed please install IDrive version from below link
- After the clean install of IDrive and once you have logged in to IDrive app, you need to recreate the backup set and schedules of the backup so we request you to capture the backup set details before you clean install IDrive app.
- Once installed, perform the backup and check if it works.
- Archive Cleanup - To run archive clean up, open IDrive application, click "Settings" tab, and then click "Archive Cleanup". Consider 100% files for cleanup so it will compare all files in the account with the files in the backup set at your local computer.

- Windows > IDrive app > Settings > Archive Cleanup > Cleanup Now
- Alternate method for IDrive's Archive Cleanup
- Windows > IDrive app > Backup > Right-click on each drive and folder > Archive Cleanup
- Archive Cleanup - For files backed up online, you can perform Archive Cleanup. When you remove files from local computer and run Archive Cleanup, IDrive will remove them on IDrive account by comparing local data.
When you delete any files locally on your computer, IDrive will not remove them on IDrive account.
You need to Perform Archive Cleanup to remove the files on IDrive account.
Archive cleanup will perform a one-to-one match of files/folders (ones selected under "backup" tab) with corresponding ones in cloud, and removes only those files from cloud that are not available on local machine.
- However Archive Cleanup feature is not supported on Local backup & external/mapped drive backupsets.
WTF?
That means that it is impossible to clean up local backups!!

- Does IDrive remove my account files when they are deleted from my computer?
- No, your files will remain in your IDrive account forever, once they are backed up.
- This means even if you accidentally delete files from your computer, they are not removed from IDrive servers; unless you delete them manually, or through the automated Archive Cleanup process.
- Problem: Archive Cleanup doesn't seem to clean up anything. Any files/folders that you copied/renamed/deleted will stay on the IDrive server for ever and ever (or until you go to idrive.com and manually delete folders on the IDrive server.)
- "Please share compressed/zipped IDrive folder from the path C:\ProgramData to check the issue further. If the folder is big, then upload the zipped file to this website and share the public link: https://wetransfer.com/ Thanks, Your IDrive Support Team"
- Notes:
- Backup sets can not be created . You can not create your own backup sets. By default there are backup sets that will be automatically assigned only when you perform different type of backups. For example, if you perform cloud backup from local drive then it will be selected as default backup, but for local backup it will be as local backup.
- Quota overages are charged at the rate of USD$0.25 per GigaByte per month for as long as you are over quota. If you are fine with these additional overuse charges, you will not need to take any action.
Delete: If you do not wish to be charged for overuse, you will need to login to your account as soon as possible and remove excess data from the storage server to bring it within the specified limits. Along with deletion, you also need to remove those files from their backupset. Otherwise the next backup will upload the files again. Is this the same as "Archive Cleanup" (see above)?
- IDrive keeps up to 10 (30?) older versions of each changed or deleted file forever, but the old files do not count against your storage cap.
- Local backups can take up a lot of disk space. To recover the disk space, use the Recover tab and delete "My Device" and all of the folders within it. When you next do a local Backup, the "My Device" will rebuild the Restore tab contents.
- When Continuous Data Protection (CDP) starts the backup it allows only 500 MB of data to be backed up at once.
The temporary files, system files, network / mapped / external drives are excluded from the operation.
- To delete backed up files: Open IDrive app > Click on Restore tab > Select Restore from Local, WiFi or Express device > Now you will see local backed up files > Expand folders and select the file/folder which you wish to delete > click on trash icon
- Confusion: This procedure appears to be deleting the original files on the local device. IDrive support assures me that it deletes only the IDrive backup files, not the originals. Correct????
- IDrive support recommends using the IDrive Application to perform deletion. When using Windows Explorer, the files displayed are encrypted, you can't see the file/folder name when you accessed from explorer. ????
- Confusion: IDrive app vs. idrive.com - Do both methods do the same job of cleaning up the server?
