- Why Did Aikido Lose Popularity? - Brief Martial Arts - YouTube
- Aikido -- ai - harmony, ki - energy, do - way -- "the way of harmonious energy"
- No competitions. Aikido is meant for reconciling conflict and the betterment of the individual, rather than deciding who is more efficient.
- "Traditional Jujitsu was created and developed in Japan by the samurai, mainly to defend against armoured and potentially armed opponents in the battle-field or in other places. "
- Morihei Ueshiba = O'Sensei (Great Teacher)
- Aiki-Jujitsu (Aiki-Jutso?)
- Kenjutsu = Japanese swordsmanship
- Jojutsu = art of the combat staff
- Meditation, spiritual practices
- Sensei Morihei Ueshiba saw Aikido as a tool to reconcile the world and help individuals improve not only their physique, but most importantly, their character. For him - technique
- Judo was known as Kano Jujitsu
- Other martial arts
- BJJ = Brazilian JuJitsu = Gracie Jujitsu (Gracie brothers, Helio & Carlos)
- Vale Tudo = a full-contact, unarmed combat event, with a limited set of rules
- MMA = Mixed Martial Arts
- UFC = Ultimate Fighting Championship
- "Real Aikido" (WCRA) by Serbian man named Ljubomir Vracarevic
- Reasons: Samurai were disbanded; Firearms; need for competition and fighting; Steven Segal; Aikido has not been commercialized or publicized like some other martial arts.
- Designed to defend against an armed attacker. People make the mistake of assuming it is for unarmed combat. Aikido is total reactionary and defensive.
- "The principles of Aikido are far more useful in the everyday world than those of MMA. Aikido is not a martial art because life is not war. If you want to learn how to defend yourself, get a gun. If you want to learn how to win a fight, learn MMA. If you want to learn how to deal with violence, from within and without, Aikido is an excellent way to do so. The chances of ever being physically attacked by someone who is a skilled martial artist are extremely small. Most attackers are confused, childish people with little awareness of what they are doing, and even that sort of attack is rare."
